Training, qualifications & experience

Selecting a counsellor/therapist can be a minefield, you can only go of what has been said alongside a photograph, and so I thought I would explain a little bit about my background to hopefully help you decide.

I have experienced highs in my life but more lows than I would have liked…

I have had a range of careers including being a sales executive in the building trade. I then took 9 years out to raise my two children. After divorce I went back to college and gained qualifications in levels 2 & 3 Teaching assistant, I got a job in a high school and it was at this stage in my life I recognised I had an aptitude for listening, I mean really listening. Teenagers would open up to me daily. I became a safeguarding officer to further help young people and decided to gain qualifications in Counselling:

Bachelor of Science, BSc (Hons) Counselling (Staffordshire University)

Level 6, Modules specific to:

  • Counselling people with PTSD

  • Counselling Children and Young People.

  • Final Dissertation on Self-Perception, Body-image and Self-worth of young women on social media

Foundation degree (FdSc) Integrative Counselling (Staffordshire University).

Levels 4 & 5, Modules specific to:

  • Person-centred Counselling

  • Psychodynamic Counselling

  • CBT Counselling

  • Understanding Self

  • Client Case Studies

  • Personality Disorders

  • Working in a group

NCFE Level 3 Diploma Integrative Counselling

NCFE Level 2 Integrative Counselling

  • Certificate in Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults

  • Certificate in Safeguarding Vulnerable Children

  • Certificate in Suicide Prevention

  • Certificate in Promoting Mental wellbeing

I was fortunate to have a truly amazing tutor who taught me the true gift of self-awareness. I grew into my most authentic self and felt comfortable talking about painful events in my life to finally allow me to move forward with a new sense of self-worth. I have a poem by Brene Brown hanging in bathroom to remind me that “when we deny our stories, they define us, we are the authors of our lives and showing up is our power”.

I volunteered at Nightstop a counselling organisation where I gained valuable skills while working with clients covering a wide range of issues.

I now have my own practice attached to my property, but I am happy to travel to you if travel is an issue, however, I would like to point out that there is a bus route which drops off a short two-minute walk away. Also, my counselling room is on ground level for easy disability access.

I have attended seminars on:

  • Eating disorders

  • Suicide Awareness

  • Mental-Wellbeing
